Focusing on (inter) subjectification, I describe the grammaticalization processes of certain connectives, sentence-final particles, and discourse markers in Korean, analyze the cognitive mechanisms behind them, and discuss their implications in the study of grammar with respect to morphosyntactic, semantic, and functional innovations (cf. Koo 2010, Rhee 2014, inter alia). In particular, I discuss how gradual, and often imperceptible, micro-level changes can lead to macro-level paradigmatic re-organization as a result of their cumulative effect. Selected references.
